Wine has recently generated a lot of interest among private investors. The wine market, like the wine itself, is maturing with age. More experienced players, investable wines, and an increasing desire from individuals all around the world! It also doesn’t hurt that this is a tangible, long-term investment that is expected to perform well in the face of inflation!
Wine as a Store of Wealth
Wine has been around for a long time and has a long documented history as a traded good. Production dates back thousands of years, with evidence of wine fermentation discovered in Georgia around 6000 BC. Originally, wine was used as a form of currency and was traded between empires for goods and services. Then, around the 11th century, wine trading began in Bordeaux following increasing business relationships between the region and England after the wedding of Henry II of England and Eleanor, Duchess of Aquitaine. Fast forward a few centuries, and in more recent years, wine trading became a popular investment opportunity as the market for fine wines continued to grow.
